Denise Phillips is an expert on the history of science with broader interests in the cultural history of 18th- and 19th-century Europe. Her research examines how the concept of science came to take on its modern meaning in German-speaking Europe between 1770 and 1850. She also studies the history of natural history and the practical life sciences. She serves as the director of undergraduate studies in the Department of History.
